The Titleist Performance Institute is a certified entity that is globally recognized for its studying and analysis of the mechanics and physical aspects of swinging a golf club. Many people consider our TPI assessment the gold standard for helping the Charlotte golf community learn more about the relationship between the human body and what happens during a golf swing.
The overall mission of the Titleist Performance Institute is to help educate other golfers and the sports healthcare community on how important it is to be aware of body movements during a golf swing. This understanding can not only be leveraged to improve someone’s golf performance but also to prevent common injuries that take people out of the game.
The TPI screen provides a way for our doctors to assess and enhance your performance as a golfer. We look at different anatomical demands of the golf swing to identify any faulty movement patterns that lead to inefficient swing faults, or golf related injuries.
Not only can the screen help identify physical limitations that shape a player’s swing and contribute to painful movement, it facilitates communication between professionals in various fields of performance enhancement (instruction, fitness, and medical). This team approach is at the core of the TPI game improvement philosophy.
A TPI golf screen is a physical assessment of 13 movement patterns that are important to the golf swing. The physical screen assesses how well your body can move and support itself during the golf swing. The screen requires little to no equipment and is quick; it takes approximately one hour. The screen will identify physical limitation and imbalances that may cause you to have one or more of the 12 most common swing faults.

Some of the most common people interested in taking a TPI assessment include:
Amateurs who are entering the sport for the first time are interested in learning all they can about the game. Taking a TPI assessment helps them to better understand how the game can be played well. However, these assessments are not just limited to beginners. Even the most experienced golfers may feel like they have plateaued in their growth look to a TPI assessment to learn more about how they can improve their swing and avoid making errors.
An instructor in any sport is only as good as their knowledge of what makes a strong player. The more a golf instructor understands the connection between physical limitations, strengths, and what makes a good golf swing, the more effective they can coach others. Taking a TPI assessment as a golf instructor allows these educators to assess their student’s golf swings and provide tailored feedback on what they can do physically to boost their performance.
Those who provide medical care, such as physical therapists, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals who treat golf injuries, can leverage a TPI assessment to help them provide better care. These professionals are expected to diagnose and treat physical ailments. They are expected to understand how the human body functions. Taking advantage of this assessment specific to golf performance and injury can help them better treat their patients that golf.
Young golfers under the age of 18 can still benefit from engaging in a TPI assessment, even if they are still only playing casually. Because the bodies of young golfers are still developing, having this type of education can guide them to build more strength, flexibility, and coordination to improve their golf swing before they start to develop bad habits that are more difficult to correct. This can help aspiring young golfers reach their full potential early on.
